- Lesson plan: Grade 1 Preparing date: September 26, 2022 Week: 5 Period: 9 Unit 3. In the street market Lesson 1 I.OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - pronounce the sound of the letter A/a. - say the words apple, bag, can, hat. II. INPUT Language: - Sound /ỉ/ - Vocabulary: apple, bag, can, hat Resources/Material: - Student’s book p. 14 - Sachmem.vn - Flashcards for Unit 3 - Poster for Unit 3 - Teacher’s guide pp. 29-31 - Computer, projector III. PROCEDURE Warm-up – Listen and repeat – Point and say – Game - Homelink Procedure Teaching and learning activities Classroom management Warm-up 5 minutes - Greet the class and introduce your name. Have Whole class pupils greet and introduce themselves. - Option 1: Have one group of pupils sing the song on p. 11 in front of the class. The class claps their hands. - Option 2: Invite one pupil to sing the song with his/her own lyrics. - Option 3: Give pupils some flashcards (of a car, cup, cat, cake, book, bike, ) and let him/her talk about possession, e.g. I have a car. - Have pupils open the books and look at Unit 3, Lesson 1 p. 14, saying Open the books and look at Unit 3, Lesson 1 (Page 14). 1. Listen and repeat 10 minutes Step 1: Open books open or access sachmem. Have pupils Whole class look at the picture, saying Look at the picture, please! and answer some questions such as Who are they? Where are they? And What are they doing? Draw pupils’ attention to the words next to the things and the colour of the letter A/a (as mentioned in Input in Teacher’s guide). Check comprehension. Ask pupils to point to the letter A/a. If they performed well, praise them, saying Well done! or Very good! Fun corner Hot seat 7 minutes Step 1: Tell pupils that they are going to play the game Hot Whole class seat. Explain how the game is played (as mentioned in the steps below). Check comprehension.
- Divide the class into teams of four pupils. Call one Step 2: pupil from each team to sit on the “hot seat”, facing Group work the classroom with the board behind. I’m + name. Whole class Encourage pupils to greet and introduce their names, e.g. Hi, I’m Hoa. - Option 1: Invite a few pupils to point to the picture/poster and pronounce the sound of the letter A/a and say the words bag, can, hat, apple. - Option 2: Ask a group of four to play Hot seat with the target vocabulary they have learnt. - Option 3: Have pupils do the projet (page 6) in pairs or groups. - Get pupils to open their books and look at Lesson 2, p. 15 (saying Open the books and look at lesson 2, please!). 3. Listen and chant 10 minutes - Open books or access sachmem. Whole class - Have pupils look at the chant. - Say Look at the chant, please! - Draw pupils’ attention to the first verse and explain its meaning. - Ask them to pay attention to the letter A/a and the words apple, bag and the sentence There’s an apple in the bag. - Check comprehension. Individually - Play the recording for pupils to listen and to get familiarized with the tune, saying Listen to the verse, please! - Then play the recording again, ask pupils to listen and repeat, line by line, saying Listen again and repeat, please! - After that, play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel confident. Whole class - Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the and individual task. work - Follow the same procedure with the verse. - Show pupils how to chant and clap their hands. - Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Group work - Play the recording all the way through. - Ask pupils to listen and repeat the chant individually and in chorus, Whole class saying Listen and chant, please! - Put the class into two groups to practise chanting and clapping.
- - Each of the groups should sing one verse of the chant. - If there is enough time, invite some groups to the front of the class to chant and clap their hands. - The rest of the class may clap their hands along to the rhythm. Say Excellent! when they perform well. - For a better class, encourage pupils to change some lines of the chant and sing it in front of the class. E.g. There’s a cat on the hat. There’s an apple in the bag. There’s a bag on the table. There’s a can on the table. 4. Listen and tick 7 minutes Step 1: Have pupils point to the pictures of Question 1 and say Whole class what they can see, saying Can you a can and an apple? Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the letters a and b. Check comprehension. Step 2: Invite some pupils to point to the pictures and say the Whole class words in front of the class, saying Point to the pictures and say, please! E.g. 1a: a can, 1b: an apple. Step 3: Play the recording of the first phrase for pupils to Individual listen. Ask pupils to say what they have heard and work ticked. Say What did you hear? Did you hear “a can” or “an apple”? Have some pupils show what they have done. Praise them if they have done well, saying Well done!
