- READING BOOKS BY TOPIC: CHOOSE A BOOK - READ TO SELF – READ TOGETHER 1. Activity name: Reading books by topic: Choose a book - Read together 2. General description: Reading books by topic: - Choose a book - Read together - is in the group of activities to promote reading, forming and developing reading habits for primary school students in the library activity organization guide. The activity is conducted in 2 periods in two consecutive weeks, each period is 35 minutes. After experiencing reading activities with teachers, students choose children's books in English to read in pairs, read in groups. Students read and share the content of the stories they have read through different reading cards, sharing and introducing books to friends. In this activity, teachers guide students to choose children's books that are suitable for their English proficiency level, and suitable for the chosen topic for reading day. Children's books can be in the form of paper books or e-books and can expand the material with video readings or books with sample voices. 3. Objectives: After completing the activity, students can: 1. Read at least one children's book in English that is suitable for their English proficiency and interests; 2. Expand 4-6 vocabulary words, 1-2 sentence structures in English according to the topic of the book; 3. Present some content in the story/book they have read to friends and relatives using story reading cards. 4. Form reading habits for students. 4. Implementation method 4.1 Process This activity is implemented in two reading sessions, each session has 5 main steps: Session 1: Implement steps 1-5 Step 1: Greeting, warm-up Step 2: Teachers and students read together a story on the chosen topic and interact with students while reading the story.
- Step 3: Teachers and students fill in some information about the story on the activity sheet. Step 4: Teachers and students use the activity sheet and retell the story. Step 5: Students retell the main information of the story in groups. Session 2: Implement steps 6-10 Step 6: Students choose English books according to the teacher's instructions Step 7: Students read the chosen books in groups or in pairs. Step 8: Students complete the activity sheet about the story content. Note, in case the school does not have many English books for students to choose from, teachers can guide steps 6, 7, 8 for students to do outside of class, depending on the actual conditions of the school. Guide students to exploit online books if necessary. Step 9. Students look at the activity sheet in step 9 and share the content of the story they have read in groups. Step 10. Teachers organize a game related to the topic of reading. 4.2. Location of the activity: library 4.3. Time of organization: 2 periods x 35 minutes 4.4. Preparation (the video has a section on prop preparation at the beginning): - CT banner with the name: Choose a book – Read together. (Note: check other scenarios all have banners with the name of each activity) - 1 teacher organizing the activity, 5 groups of students (each group has 4 students) - Timer - Handout 1: Activity sheet 1 - Bee-shaped vocabulary card - Little bee wants to help story on sachmem.vn and paper book (Story land 3, volume 1, Story 6) - 10 English story books at a simple level: Story with illustrations, each page has an illustration and 1-4 sentences with pictures.
- TELL A STORY IN ENGLISH: TELL A STORY 1. Activity name: Tell a story in English 2. General description: The activity Tell a story in English is in the group of activities to encourage reading, form and develop reading habits for primary school students in the guide to organizing library activities. Students choose, listen to, read children's stories in English individually, in pairs, in groups and retell the story in many different forms such as expressive reading, storytelling, acting. The teacher guides students to choose children's story books suitable for their English proficiency level 3. Objectives: After completing the activity, students can: 5. Expressively read or tell a children's story in English suitable for their English proficiency and interests; 6. Expand 4-6 vocabulary words, 1-2 sentence structures in English according to the book's topic; 7. Improve reading, listening and speaking fluency in English; 8. Form reading habits for students; 9. Share and interact between groups and grades. 4. Implementation method 4.1 Process This activity is implemented in two reading sessions, each session has 4-5 main steps: Lesson 1: Implement steps 1-5 Step 1: Greeting, Warm-up Step 2: Guide students on some notes when reading expressively and telling stories such as the character's dialogue, the narrator's voice and the character's voice, reading punctuation, pausing for each phrase...
- Step 3: Read some passages expressively with students. Use some videos as models for students to read along. Step 4: Introduce some storybooks suitable for students' English level. Step 5: Students practice expressive reading/ storytelling based on a selected story. The whole class can choose the same story to practice and compete. Note, in case the school does not have many English books for students to choose from, teachers can guide steps 6, 7, 8 for students to practice outside of class, depending on the actual conditions of the school. Instruct students to exploit online books if necessary. Practice at home: Step 6: Students practice and present their performance at home. Encourage parents to help their children record their storytelling/ expressive reading and share it to spread the spirit of storytelling/ expressive reading in English. Lesson 2: Implement steps 7-10 Step 7: Practice your performance in groups in class. Each group selects 1-2 members (depending on class size) to continue to the performance round in front of the class. Step 8: Students representing each group present their storytelling/expressive reading. (Divide into two tables, storytelling table and expressive reading table) Step 9: Students choose their favorite reading/narrating voice according to each table Step 10: Reward students with favorite reading/narrating voice according to each table. 4.2. Location of the activity: library 4.3. Time: 2 periods x 35 minutes 4.4. Preparation (the video has a prop preparation section at the beginning): - CT banner with the name: Tell a story in English (note to check other scripts all have banners with the name of each activity) - 1 teacher to organize the activity, 5 groups of students (each group has 4 students) - Timer

SEARCHING BY TOPIC IN ENGLISH – SEARCHING IN ENGLISH - I CAN FIND GOOD INFORMATION! 1. Activity name Searching by topic in English – Searching in English - I can find good information! 2. General description The activity Searching by topic in English – Searching in English - I can find good information! is in the group of activities to support students' learning, helping students to explore find information, knowledge and develop creative thinking for primary school students in the library activity organization guide. Students explore knowledge, learn about issues related to nature and society in English according to suggested topics, suitable for primary school students. Students select, synthesize information and present it in different forms such as video clips, presentations, etc. Teachers guide students to search for information safely and effectively according to the selected topic. Support students to synthesize and present their products. 3. Objectives After completing the activity, students can: Look up and synthesize information about a selected topic; Present the content learned in English; Expand English vocabulary and grammar; Improve reading, listening and speaking fluency in English; Expand and consolidate the content learned in other subjects; Share and interact between groups and grades. 4. - 4.1 Process This activity is implemented in 2 35-minute sessions. Session 1: Step 1: Greetings, Warm-up Step 2: Choose the topic of the research session Step 3: List the content that students want to learn about the topic and list some keywords 29 /questions according to the selected topic. Step 4: Introduce some safe websites for students to research. Step 5: Conduct research with students on safe websites according to the topic. Step 6: Synthesize the information found using mind maps, information diagrams that have been designed in advance or presentation slides. Step 7: Students present the content they have researched. Session 2: Step 8: Students work in groups, repeating steps 2, 3, 5, 6. (Step 8 can be done at home) Step 9: Students practice presenting the information found in groups. Step 10: Students present the information they found in class. 4.2. Location of the activity: library with computers or computer room 4.3. Time: 35 minutes 4.4. Preparation (the video has a prop preparation section at the beginning): - CT banner with the name: Searching by topic in English - I can find good information!
